Student Life

A daily rhythm of work and warmth

Academics matter here, but so does the life around them. Our days are full but unhurried, and the community is close enough that a student can be known — and can find the things that become theirs.

Beyond the classroom

Clubs & activities

Student-led clubs meet weekly — debate, programming, literary magazine, outdoor club, and more. If a group of students wants to start something new, a faculty sponsor will help them do it.

Athletics

We field small, committed teams in cross-country, soccer, basketball, and track. The emphasis is on effort, sportsmanship, and learning to be part of something larger than yourself.

The arts

Studio, music, and performance are part of the week, not an extra. Students exhibit work, publish writing, and stage performances through the year.

Advisory & well-being

Every student meets weekly with a faculty advisor. The advisor is the first call for a family and the steady adult who follows a student's whole life at school.

Traditions

A few simple traditions mark the year — a fall hike, a winter concert, a spring thesis defense. They give the community a shared rhythm.

Service

Students take part in regular service across the foothills region. We believe a good education should make young people useful to others.

The shape of the week

Deep work first, play after

Mornings are reserved for the hardest thinking. Afternoons open into the studio, the lab, the field, and one another. Evenings belong to families. The rhythm is simple on purpose.

Morning

Reading, discussion, proof, and the day's main academic work.

Afternoon

Arts, electives, laboratory work, athletics, and clubs.

Evening

Home with families. Older students carry a manageable amount of independent reading.
